Captain Bligh's Brewery is a Hobart Brewery. The building where the current brewery is was originally Punshon's Brewery in the 1830s. The brewery became, James Tasmanian Pale Ale Brewery, Adams Brewery and then the Co-Operative Brewery
Today known as the Tasmanian Brewery Building, the brewery section is occupied by Steve Brooks, Head Brewer and Owner, and his partner Karen.
Captain Bligh’s Colonial Ale is made in compliance with the colonial laws of Tasmania standing in the 1800s, which stipulated all the ingredients had to be grown in the Colony. This tradition continues using Midlands barley malt, hops from Bushy Park and some of the softest, cleanest water in the world. A small amount of Apple Cider is also produced, keeping true to the real Captain Bligh, who planted the first Apple tree in Australia
The brewery’s range of beers also includes Hobart Indian Pale Ale, Six Guinea Pale Ale, Huffcap Stout, Stride Wide Lager, Browny’s Brown Ale and Anneke Ale. This brew is named after the lead character in the book The Brewers Tale, written by Karen. Captain Bligh’s also makes Australia’s only ‘”beerjam” using the brewery’s IPA and stout.
